WADI RUM, JORDAN

The vast flat desert of southern Jordan, strewn with towering sandstone peaks is a stunning sight, unlike any other place I have ever been.  Deep in the sweeping, empty south of the country, almost completely uninhabited except along the small coastal strip abutting the Red Sea lies the majesty of Wadi Rum, a seemingly endless stretch of sand and stone, sporadically dotted with Bedouin tents.  Home to Lawrence of Arabia and the Arab Revolt during the first World War, the valley resonates with history, a place where the importance of the place reflects the beauty of it.
