MAASAI MARA, KENYA

Maasai Mara National Reserve annually hosts one of the most extraordinary displays of nature in the world, the Great Migration. Each summer over a million wildebeest, along with hundreds of thousands of zebra and gazelle make the treacherous crossing of the Mara river, beset by lions, cheetah, and hyenas on land and crocodiles hidden in the water.  It is an unforgiving reflection on life everywhere on Earth, with birth and death readily on display, and fear, and perhaps even hope visible on the faces of the animals that constantly surround you.  Despite all of this action, it can still be an amazing peaceful place, as with this sunset, viewed by a serene giraffe perhaps enjoying the end of another day on this beautiful planet.
