LOUNGE CHAIR

Steel, Plywood, Faux Leather

Inspired by two of the most famous chairs of all time -- the Eames Lounge (670) by Charles and Ray Eames, and the LC4 by Charlotte Perriand, Pierre Jeanneret, and Le Corbusier -- this lounge chair is an attempt to merge the old and the new, all while designing a  product with a perfect custom fit. I aimed to combine the language of both of the inspiring pieces, creating an aesthetic that echoes the Eames Lounge Chair, while building a classic chaise lounge with the fantastic ergonomics of the LC4. In addition, the design included unique extended standoffs to give the cushioned segments a sense of independence, and create an impression of floating for the viewer.

The process for creating a chair to match these requirements was extremely involved. From beginning to end this required extensive CAD work, milling, welding, laser cutting, plywood forming, grinding, and finishing, and resulted in the high level of fit and finish that gives me pride in all of the products that I create.
